Restek, a leading provider of concrete structural repairs, composite strengthening, ground remediation using hybrid chemical grouting alternatives and structural piles, as well as geotechnical solutions using state of the art ground investigation techniques to tailor engineered solutions where traditional forms of treatment may not be suitable.

So, what will you be responsible for?

Our developing team specialise in chemical grouting and ground engineering solutions and due to our continued growth since becoming an employee owned business back in 2021, we now have an opening for a geotechnical designer that will be tasked with designing ground engineering solutions using specialist chemical grouts as well as mini piled solutions that can range from increasing the service life of a dule carriageway to Increasing the bearing capacity of foundations or stabilising sea defences , these are just a few of the types of schemes in which are likely to come across your desk. You will be required to appraise enquiries coming in and advise on scoping of site investigations, interpretation of field data, to provide feasibility advice and production of geotechnical design reports and construction phase support.

A number of our forthcoming projects are likely to involve large scale ground consolidation, including micro piling, slab jacking and structural waterproofing in conjunction with our geotechnical curtain grouting remediation team. Restek are active innovators and are working on developing pioneering systems and promoting viable alternatives to the standard approaches, which includes challenging rail schemes where you will be working on track bed stabilisation. Your key responsibility will be to provide support in the following areas (list not exhaustive):

Responsibilities and duties

  • Reporting directly to our Technical Director you will deliver regional and wider UK geotechnical designs for ground improvement
  • Actively manage live ground investigation projects, including responsibility for record keeping and supporting site-based staff
  • Producing/reviewing interpretive/design reports, providing advice and guidance to clients and project teams
  • Reviewing documentation provided by project teams, assess this against the project’s targets and provide feedback or follow-up
  • Attending site visits and meetings including client and contractor liaison throughout the project delivery cycle
  • Managing your own workload to meet project deadlines
  • Assisting in preparing bids and proposals for new work, including business development for new opportunities
  • Attending and contributing to team meetings and completing relevant training in accordance with Resteks internal ground penetrating radar offering

You will also be required to give assistance to others with technical methodology/questions or scenarios, such as describing how the works will be undertaken, sequencing and consistent delivery over the period of the contract etc.

Key Skills / Requirements

  • BEng, BSc or higher qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering. Alternatively, a first degree in Geology with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered Member of a relevant institution, experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer with consultancy experience gained in the UK
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, strong geotechnical design experience including writing Geotechnical Design Reports and specifications in accordance with current codes of practice and design standards
  • Experience in the design and specification of ground improvement using both traditional and alternative value engineers solutions
  • Experience in the assessment and verification of foundations, piles, slopes, grouting desirable
  • Experience in the supervision and verification of construction projects is highly desirable
  • A working knowledge of geotechnical design software packages (i.e. fine GEO5, Oasys, Rocscience etc)
  • Experience of finite element modelling including Plaxis 2D/3D desirable
  • Experience in interpreting Ground Penetrating Radar data GPR insights desirable
  • Experienced in writing interpretive geotechnical reports
  • Good overall computing skills (Microsoft Office essential such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint) including AutoCAD or Civils 3D
  • A valid driving licence
  • A strong knowledge and background in project management
  • A willingness to train and mentor junior members of staff
  • A willingness to support construction project across the region You'll be set up for success if you possess the following attributes: Ambitious, self-motivated and enthusiastic

  • Ability to manage projects & client relationship management skills
  • Proven track record of project delivery
