Restek’s high frequency band strength is vital to our GPR system. Most standard GPR systems are designed for utility surveying. The frequency band strength for utility surveying is much lower, due to the shallow depth analysis required for buried drainage and pipes. The issue with lower strength frequency is that it does not identify deeper issues such as voids or subsoil interlayers, so low level GPR frequency doesn’t provide a full picture of the subsurface and has the potential to create blind spots in the data.
Restek’s GPR equipment has a bandwidth of up to 1400Mhz with blended frequencies in order to be able to penetrate at deep depths (up to 10mtrs) to negate the potential issues associated with blind spots. The detailed survey picture allows Restek to create tailored designs for void grouting issues and provide a long term, value-engineered, complete remediation package for our clients through early engagement and collaboration.
Ever the innovator, Restek has developed the OnTrack Rail GPR system. This purpose-built, state-of-the art equipment provides accurate, deep-depth data collation which is key to providing client engagement. The unit is fully battery operated and designed specifically for rail use either in daytime or night time conditions, both on track and in tunnel environments.
Restek designed the OnTrack Rail GPR unit specifically for covering differing track conditions, such as ballast, connections and transitions. Our OnTrack Rail GPR meets current rail regulations, offers speed of operation and moves seamlessly along the tracks, providing continuous detailed data capture.
Our flexible deep depth GPR system processes data quickly and efficiently and is fully adjustable to cover all areas of track and ballast if required. Once the data capture is completed, our clients are then provided with a detailed technical report as part of ECI. Our collaborative approach visually confirms data validation to our clients, therefore providing the client with comfort and confidence to move forward with each individual scheme.
Moving separate GPR antennas up and down the tracks is time consuming & takes a lot of manpower. Restek’s OnTrack GPR system has a built-in triple antenna, meaning our clients benefit from no additional time spent moving antennas and fewer operatives are required on site, which also reduces safety risks and the benefit of a reduction in time taken for on-site administration.
Restek’s Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) is designed to transmit a high strength pulse, via multi-frequency bands ranging from 50 to 1400Mhz. Inside the GPR unit is a triple frequency antenna that uses bespoke data blending software to give results in the form of unique, high quality 2D & 3D images of the subsurface.
Our GPR software provides a detailed view of the ground beneath, which allows our experienced engineers to extrapolate an accurate, bespoke image of each project in which to assess the remediation required. The GPR unit transmits a pulse down into the ground that provides varying electrical conduction properties of different objects, strata and voids. The strength of the signal and the time taken to receive it back, provides data on the type of material that the signal has made contact with. The data returned is then blended using Restek’s state of the art software, to show a full detailed picture of the ground beneath.
GPR is best suited to materials that have low conductivity or high resistivity, such as sandy soils, limestone and granite, but also works well in most saturated environments. However, it does not favour the use of highly conductive materials like clay or saline soils, where the penetration depth can be limited. The depth of penetration is dependent on the antenna frequency, water content and soil conductivity. Restek’s WIFI GPR system typically surveys from 2 – 5m but is more than capable of achieving up to 10m for applications with good soil conditions, as we are able to modify the RDP values to provide variations on data visibility.
